 Fuse boards

Fuse boards are primarily used to separate individual circuits throughout the house. They act as safety mechanisms, which will interrupt and de-energise a faulty circuit. All fuse boards are now referred to as Consumer Units and are recommended under the 18th edition IET regulations to be metalled clad with a gravity fed metal lid to stop the spread of fire. Consumer units also now come with residual current devices (RCD’s) as protection against electric shock.

MKP Electric strongly recommends upgrading your consumer unit if it’s not up to regulations. The secondary reason to do this is before the upgrade can take place, all wiring and accessories to the associated circuits needs to be inspected and tested for condition and safety.

Rewiring or partial rewiring

Rewiring is necessary when the existing cabling has been tested and its condition is no longer fit for service. Rewiring is then carried out generally by-passing new cables underneath floors, ceiling voids and chasing cables into walls. This causes damage, dust and inconvenience.

Partial rewiring tends to come around when people are having new a new kitchen fitted, building a loft conversions and/or extension or when part of an existing circuit has failed or additions to the circuit i.e. new sockets or lights are being made.

MKP Electric has rewired many houses, habited and non-habitat and because of this experience, we have learned to minimise the disruption as much as possible.

 Additional Sockets and Lighting

MKP Electric can install additional sockets to an existing circuit, as long as the existing circuit is tested and is suitable. Depending on the fabric of the building, installing an additional socket generally takes one hour.

MKP Electric can upgrade your lighting commonly this is done with recessed LED ceiling lights or mood lighting (LED strips).

 Underfloor heating

Electric underfloor heating is a nice addition, especially underneath tiled flooring. If you are upgrading your bathroom, you might want to consider installing underfloor heating.

Testing, Fault Finding and Repairs

All electrical installations need to be tested before, during and after installation. This proves the condition of the installation and gives a set of results that is then added to either an Installation Certificate, a Minor Work Certificate or an EICR/Electrical Installation Condition Report.

Fault Finding can be a lengthy process, but through years of testing experience, MKP Electric can generally find the problem fairly quickly. After finding the fault, we can then discuss further steps to Repair the problem.

Data Cabling

MKP Electric can install CAT5E datapoints throughout the property and these can also be used as wireless access points to boost the WIFI signal throughout.

Garden Lights

Garden Lighting can be a nice addition to anyone’s home. MKP Electric can offer a design and installation service for your outside space, often using Radio Frequency switching, therefore no installation work or disruption is needed inside the property.
